Regardless of the Moldovan government’s attitude to the humanitarian aid that comes from the EU, this will continue to help the country’s people, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Alexandru Fetescu said in a public debate titled “Political colors of international assistance in times of pandemic”, which was held by IPN.

The politician noted that regardless of the current government’s attitude to the support provided from outside for overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, the parties come and go, but the foreign partners will continue to help, first of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

“Definitely, the donors or friends continue to help when they understand that this assistance is directed namely to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The European Union will continue to help us as it wants to have a friendly state in which the people live well at its frontier. Romania will help us because of the feeling of brotherhood, while the Russian Federation, if we can class at least something of what it did so far as international assistance, will do it in order to keep its political control in the region,” stated Alexandru Fetescu.

He noted the citizens have now other concerns and problems than following the path of the humanitarian aid that reaches Moldova.

“Regrettably, we do not have free press by which the people will be at least appropriately informed about what is really happening in the Republic of Moldova in this crisis situation. Personally, I do not trust the disseminated official information and I do not trust the way in which this government will manage the post-pandemic effects,” stated the politician.

In conclusion, Alexandru Fetescu said the grade to the government will be given by the voters in the next elections.

The ruling parliamentary parties that are directly responsible for managing the situation in the field of international assistance didn’t accept the invitation to IPN’s debate, while the representatives of the opposition parliamentary parties that also have particular involvement in this issue weren’t invited so as not to distort the balanced character of IPN’s debates.

The debate “Political colors of international assistance in times of pandemic” was the 133rd edition of the series of debates “Developing political culture through public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
