Alexandra Can, of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said the party decided to field a candidate after it realized that in these elections there won’t be a common candidate of the right. She was chosen because of her rich experience. The candidate made such statements in the second rounds of the public debate “I ask you to elect me mayor because...”, organized by IPN News Agency.
Alexandra Can noted she held different posts and achieved results in these. She worked in the local public bodies and in the central public administrator. She knows how to manage a city hall by a modern system and how to work with people and in a team.
According to her, the political component in these elections remains, but the executive component is the most important. She knows the problems faced by the city and is ready to solve them based on her experience. She wants to modernize the City Hall, to restore the dialogue and cooperation with the central public administration that will offer support for local projects.
She said that she gained experience as the president of the Association of Light Industry Employers and will attract investment and will initiate projects to ensure the development of the municipality. “Let’s vote a good mayor, who is called Alexandra Can,” she urged, noting her experience will enable to change things at the public institutions during two months of mayoralty and she will create for the purpose an efficient management system and will organize high-quality training courses for the staff.
Constantin Codreanu, the candidate of the National Unity Party, invited Alexandra Can to join his team when he is elected mayor so that they do nice things together. The PNL candidate replied she will not do it as there will be more important posts she could hold if she does not win the elections.
Asked by independent candidate Silvia Radu how she will persuade the voters of the left that she is the best candidate for mayor, Alexandra Can said she will do it based on her experience that enables to unite ideas and people.
Victor Stratila, the candidate of the Green Ecologist Party, asked Alexandra Can if she agrees to work in the Consultative Council that the Greens will create after they win the elections. Seriously or jokingly, the PNL candidate said she can do it, but only as a volunteer and by suggesting good project ideas.
ADEPT executive director Igor Botan, the project’s standing expert said the experience gained by Alexandra Can, including as ex-minister, is her trump card. “The ministry she managed had much more complicated duties than the City Hall. She worked in business and industry, knows accounting and finance. Furthermore, everyone knows she is a source of energy.
The public debate “I ask you to elect me mayor because...” was the 90th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture through political debates” that are financially supported by the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
