The Ciocana court decided that suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo will stay under judicial supervision for 30 more days, IPN reports.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the state prosecutors asked to leave Alexandr Stoianoglo under judicial supervision for 60 more days, but their request was accepted only partially. They will be considering whether to appeal the court decision or not.

Stoianoglo was released from house arrest and placed under judicial supervision, which is a form of bail, for a period of 30 days on December 9. He was put under house arrest on October 8. Last December, prosecutors announced they were ready to arraign Stoianoglo on the abuse of authority charge. In particular, Stoianoglo is accused of authorizing a retirement allowance of 163,900 lei for a prosecutor subjected to a criminal investigation, which is against the law.

The suspended Prosecutor General also faces charges of passive corruption, perjury and helping a criminal group. Stoianoglo pleads not guilty on all counts.

At the end of May, the Superior Council of Prosecutors, after examining the expert commission’s report on Alexandr Stoianoglo’s work as prosecutor general, proposed that President Maia Sandu should dismiss him. President Sandu hasn’t yet taken a decision. At the beginning of June, the European Court of Human Rights communicated both of the complaints filed by the suspended prosecutor general to the Government of the Republic of Moldova as a matter of urgency.
