Ex-MP and former executive director of the Farmers’ Force Association, Alexandr Slusari, draws attention to the devastating impact of drought on agriculture in Moldova, which has persisted for three consecutive years. He said it is imperative to declare a state of emergency in the agricultural sector - a measure that would stabilize the situation and prevent the bankruptcy of farmers, IPN reports.

“I’m convinced that it is necessary to declare a state of emergency in agriculture, which would allow stabilizing, at least a little, the situation among micro, small and medium-sized farmers and saving them from bankruptcy,” Alexandr Slusari wrote on his Facebook page.

He believes that it is not the right time to promote the project of agricultural chambers, which he considers utopian, and suggests that the Ministry of Agriculture should withdraw it. He said that there is an urgent need to convene a meeting of the authorities with farmers’ associations, scientists and foreign partners to rethink the strategy for developing the agri-food sector.

“Every day of delay brings the catastrophe closer to the farmers from rural areas!”, warns the former parliamentarian.
