The Republic of Belarus is open for cooperation with Moldova and is ready to intensify the commercial-economic cooperation in particular. “We are waiting for large quantities of Moldovan wine on the market of Belarus. They are excellent and don’t need advertising,” said President of Belarus Alexandr Lukashenko, who had a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman and the leaders of the parliamentary groups, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Parliament’s press service.

Alexandr Lukashenko noted that Belarus respects Moldova’s decision to associate itself with the EU. “In the current context, Moldova’s association with the EU is a correctly chosen development project. The EU has possibilities, including financial, to help you develop and modernize,” he stated.

Igor Corman said the Belarusian President’s visit will give a fresh impetus to the traditional relations of friendship between the two countries, while the cooperation agreements between Moldova and Belarus signed in Chisinau will foster the bilateral cooperation. “The Moldovan-Belarusian relations should become an example of cooperation relations between countries, regardless of their development model,” he stated.

The Speaker noted that Moldova’s association with the EU is a safe road to modernization, the European integration project allowing keeping and developing cooperation relations with the traditional partners from the East as well. “The Association Agreement with the EU, which was signed and ratified by Moldova, represents a foundation for Moldova’s European future and does not run counter to the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement with the CIS states,” said Igor Corman.

Alexandr Lukashenko also met with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. The Premier thanked the authorities of Belarus for their constructive attitude towards Moldova in light of the regional events and the bans on the import of Moldovan products imposed by Russia.

The two also discussed joint projects under implementation and the initiation of new projects in infrastructure. They agreed to intensify the cooperation in the energy sector. In particular, they considered possibilities of increasing the quantities of crude oil supplied by Belarus to Moldova in a move to ensure the country’s energy security in winter.

Alexandr Lukashenko is paying an official visit to Moldova on September 24-25.
