The relations between Moldova and Belarus will be and will develop as the Moldovan citizens want. Belarus is ready to offer support to Moldova in any area to the extent to which the Moldovan side wants, President of Belarus Alexandr Lukashenko, who is in Chisinau on an official visit during April 18-19, stated after a meeting with President Igor Dodon, IPN reports.

According to Lukashenko, Moldova produces what Belarus needs and vice versa. The Belarusian side is ready to share its experience in all the areas. He noted he feels at home in Moldova.

Referring to Moldova’s foreign course, the President of Belarus said the small nations should not be put on their knees and should not be told where to go. “Let us decide how to be and how to act. I welcome the President’s position to take what’s best from both directions,” stated the Belarusian leader.

For his part, Igor Dodon expressed his conviction that the potential of cooperation between Moldova and Belarus hasn’t been fully realized. In this connection, he pleaded for holding a new meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Commercial-Economic Cooperation this year.

President Dodon noted the dynamic rise in the bilateral trade. He said that in 2017 this came to about US$ 225 million, an increase of about 10% on 2016. Belarus is among the top ten partner states of Moldova, ranking first by the imports of Moldovan wines. Also, Moldova and Belarus signed over 90 commercial-economic agreements and another 11 are being prepared.

The two Presidents in the meeting discussed the implementation of a number of projects, especially the creation of joint enterprises for storing and selling Belarusian oil products and for bottling Moldovan frothy wine and cognac. Special attention was devoted to the problems faced in the transport sector.
