Alexandr Kalinin, who repeatedly filed an application to have the initiative group in his support as a candidate for President registered, said the registration of the initiative groups for which the required documents were filed on September 1 should be annulled. The reason invoked by the Central Election Commission (CEC) for refusing the registration of his group for the first time was that he initiated the constitution of this group earlier that 60 days before the elections, as the law requires. This violation was also committed by all those who presented the documents to the CEC on September 1 as it is 61 days form this date until the election day.

Alexandr Kalinin has told IPN that in its response, the CEC said the meeting to constitute the initiative group was held on August 28 and the Election Code’s provisions that the nomination of the candidate for President starts 60 days before the election day was not respected. Consequently, the CEC rejected the registration application.

According to him, even if the procedure for nominating candidates  Dorin Chirtoacă, Octavian Țîcu, Andrian Candu, Maia Sandu, Andrei Năstase, Renato Usatyi, Tudor Deliu for President and the constitution of their initiative groups also took place with violations of the legislation, their applications were accepted.

Alexandr Kalinin also said that the legal provisions should be applied equally in relation to everyone and those initiative groups should be thus annulled, while the applicants should rerun the procedure.

The candidate filed a challenge to the Chisinau City Appeals Court by which he demands to annul the relevant decisions taken by the Central Election Commission.

After Alexandr Kalinin presented again the required documents, the CEC was to pronounce on September 6, but the examination was put off until September 7.
