The leader of the Party of Regions Alexandr Kalinin came with a reaction after the incident concerning the spoken language that occurred during an electoral debate on Pro TV channel. He made reference to Article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which provides that Moldovan is the official language.
“You can speak whatever language you want, Ukrainian, Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian. I respect each of you. You can consider yourselves either Romanians or Moldovans, but should not ignore statehood, the Constitution, the official language. If you are on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, I urge you to obey the laws of this country, the Constitution of this country. If Article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova stipulates that Moldovan based on the Latin script is the official language, the Moldovan language is the official language,” Alexandr Kalinin stated in a press briefing at IPN.
He said the Party of Regions of Moldova will watch over the statehood of Moldova and the observance of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. If they enter Parliament, they will propose introducing the second official language – Russian. He assured that the Party of Regions will manage to do what it aims to.
“We are the only party that defends statehood. We are now witness to an expansion. Regrettably, we stopped studying the history of Moldova. Regrettably, we stopped studying the Moldovan language. I don ‘t know why the history of Romanians is taught,” stated Alexandr Kalinin. He addressed the real patriots, who speak Moldovan, saying it is the duty of everyone to defend statehood event if there are also other nationalities on the country’s territory.
The leader of the Party of Regions also said that if they enter the legislative body, they will introduce the statehood test. The functionaries will be allowed to work only after they admit that Moldovan is the official language. Those who will intentionally continue to disseminate hatred related to the name of the language and nationality will be held accountable,” stated Alexandr Kalinin.
He noted that the Party of Regions will pursue a correct policy by maintaining the neutrality and statehood of the country. It will solve the Transnistrian dispute based on the interests of the citizens from both banks of the Nistru and will have good cooperation relations with the authorizes of the Russian Federation so as to solve all the problems of the Moldovans living in this country.
