The platform alegeri.md was updated with information about the October 20 national constitutional referendum and election. The Association for Participatory Democracy “ADEPT”, within the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, published data about the two electoral exercises, candidates and participants and similar exercises held earlier.

“We sought to reflect both the election and the referendum. We also allotted space for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova abroad. And this is because, as statistics show, about a third of the voting-eligible citizens are outside the Republic of Moldova, and, starting with 1994, a principle was introduced in the national electoral legislation, according to which the authorities have the obligation to offer the citizens of this state the right to participate in voting, wherever they are,” ADEPT executive director Igor Boțan stated in a news conference hosted by IPN

Under the heading “Presidential elections”, the 11 candidates are presented with their electoral symbols, slogans and programs. These are representatives of six political parties and five independent candidates. The electoral profile of each candidate is available, with biographical data, information about the activities carried out, property declarations, etc.

“We urge you to inform yourself before voting. Why do I say this? Because, according to opinion polls, about a third or a quarter of the eligible to vote fellow citizens, when they are asked if they will vote in the election and if they decided who they will vote for, they say no. It is a large figure. A quarter or a third of the citizens usually decide who they will vote for during the last days before the elections or even when they are in the voting booth. That is why we believe that our effort is useful. The citizens, if they want to make an informed decision, are invited to inform themselves on the platform alegeri.md,” noted Igor Boțan.

Another section is intended for the national constitutional referendum, which will take place simultaneously with the presidential election. Within this exercise, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova can, for the first time, participate in the amendment of the Constitution. The 11 amendments to the Constitution so far were made only by Parliament. This section presents the history of referendums, their results and effects. The profiles and options of referendum campaigners are also presented.

Igor Boțan also referred to the section referring to voting abroad, which contains data on preregistration and on postal voting that piloted for the first time this year in six countries: Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway, the U.S., and Sweden. Information about the number and location of polling stations outside the country is also available.
