A number of national police inspectorates received modern alotests that can be used in road accidents and in other categories of offenses or contraventions, such as domestic violence, hooliganism and causing of bodily injuries, IPN reports.

To diminish the number of traffic accidents, the National Public Security Inspectorate received five laser devices for measuring and recording the speed of vehicles. These modern devices combine the functions of video cameras and of a laser system and not only measure the speed, but also record other deviations on the road, during the day and at night.

The equipment can be used individually by police officers inside or outside police cars or can be placed on a tripod without the presence of an operator being needed while recording.

In the equipment distribution event, General Police Inspectorate chief Sergiu Paiu said the road accidents with serious consequences of the recent period occurred mainly because of driving under the influence of alcohol or speeding. “These deceives will support our efforts to ensure a safe climate in the community, to strengthen the police’s professionalism and to fight corruption,” he stated, being quoted in a press release of the GPI.

The acquisition was made with financial support from the EU as part of the Police Development Strategy for 2016-2020.
