Moldova’s best-rated tennis player Radu Albot is one step closer to the London Olympic Games. His chances of participation have been boosted by a victory in a Futures series tournament in Bacau, Romania, Info-Prim Neo reports.
On Sunday, June 3, the main favorite Radu Albot bested his compatriot Roman Borvanov in the final, 7-5, 6-4. This was for the first time an international final was played between two Moldovans.
This is Radu’s sixth success in 2012, after 5 tournaments won in Turkey.
Albot occupies the 219th position in the ATP rankings. This is the 22-year-old’s best result so far.
The player will find out on June 11 whether he will participate in the Olympic Games. According to the National Tennis Federation, Albot will ask the International Olympic Committee for a special invitation.
