Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot on June 17 enters the qualifiers of the Wimbledon tournament, which is the third Grand Slam competition of the year. His first opponent will be Dmitri Zhyrmont of Belarus. In case of a victory, Albot will play against the winner of the match between James McGee of Ireland and Paul Capdeville of Chile.
Albot is taking part in the prestigious London competition for the second time. Last year, he was eliminated in the first qualifying round by Brian Baker from the U.S.
The Moldovan athlete earlier competed in another two Grand Slam events – the Australian Open and the U.S. Open. He has not yet taken part in the Roland Garros tournament.
In the new ATP world rankings released on June 17, Albot comes 195th, which is his best position ever. In 2013, he played in the final of a Challenger competition, this being his most important accomplishment in career.
