The Moldovan tennis players have been eliminated from the international competitions. Radu Albot left the Challenger tournament “Tunis Open” after he was beaten by Romania’s Adrian Ungur 7-5, 7-6 in quarterfinals, IPN reports.
Despite the defeat, Albot will be awarded 25 points in the world rankings and a check of US$3,650. In the doubles, Radu and Germany’s Benjamin Becker were defeated in the second round.
Andrei Ciumac was close to going through to the final of the Futures tournament in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. He was beaten in the last but one set by Serbian Pedja Krstin 7-6, 6-2. Ciumac yet won the main trophy in the doubles, together with Kirill Dmitriev of Russia.
Maxim Dubarenko had a modest performance at the Futures competition in Antalya, Turkey. He was eliminated in the second round by Italy’s Damiano di Ienno.
On May 6, the ATP world rankings will be updated. Albot and Ciumac are expected to considerably improve their positions in the rankings.
