Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot on August 21 will compete in the qualifiers of the U.S. Open, which is the fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year. His first opponent will be Adrian Menendez-Maceiras of Spain. If he scores a victory, Albot will duel with the winner of the match between Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia and Marsel Ilhan of Turkey.
Albot is taking part in the prestigious New York tournament for the second time. Last year, he was eliminated in the second qualifying round by the Netherlands’ Igor Sijslink.
The Moldovan athlete earlier this year competed in another two Grand Slam tournaments - Australian Open and Wimbledon. He has never yet taken part in the Roland Garros competition.
In the new ATP world rankings, Albot ranks 200th. This is his best position so far. In 2013, Albot also competed in the final of a Challenger competition, this being the greatest accomplishment in his career.
