After failing to qualify for the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Group I, tennis players Radu Albot and Maxim Dubarenco slipped several positions in the ATP rankings, IPN reports.
Albot now ranks 189th, while Dubarenco – 390th. The two didn’t return home after representing Moldova in the duel with Denmark. Albot left for Slovakia to take part in a Challenger tournament, while Dubarenko will compete in a Futures tournament in Sweden.
When back in Chisinau, national tennis team captain Iurie Gorban said the field chosen by the Danish hosts was decisive for the fate of the qualifications for Group I of the Davis Cup. “They selected a field that is convenient for them. It is very slippery. No ATP tournament is played on such ground. In the Davis Cup it hasn’t been banned yet,” Iurie Gorban told the reporters.
In the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings, Anastasia Vdovenco is the best ranked among Moldovan women tennis players. She takes the 582nd position.
