Radu Albot is close to achieving the greatest accomplishment in his career. The best Moldovan tennis player qualified for the final of the tournament “Karshi Challenger” that is taking place in Uzbekistan and has a prize fund of US$50,000.
In semifinals, Albot beat Indian player Prakash Amritraj 6-1, 3-0.
In the final, the Moldovan athlete will play Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili, who ranks 177th in the ATP rankings. The winner will be awarded 80 points in the world hierarchy and a check of US$7,200. The other player will get 48 points and US$4,240.
In his career, Albot has won 14 tournaments of the Futures circuit, which are inferior in value to those of the Challenger series. A possible victory in the competition in Uzbekistan will push Albot up in the ATP rankings and will increase his chances of competing in the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament.
