In connection with three outbreaks of African swine fever in Crocmaz village of Ștefan Vodă district, all the pigs in the locality will be killed and burned so as to stop the spread of the virus. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet on October 3. The animal owners will be paid compensation, IPN reports.
According to the National Food Safety Agency, 25 outbreaks of African swine fever have been reported in Moldova so far this year. Of these, 16 are active hotbeds. So far, 14 districts in southeastern Moldova were affected by the virus, with 253 pigs being killed.
To prevent the spread of the virus, it was decided to extend the period of hunting for wild boars, foxes and jackals, who carry the virus. Control at border crossing points was made stricter. The travelers are not allowed to transport pork or products from pork in their luggage.
