Former minister of health, social protection and family Ala Nemerenko said she found out many interesting things about different schemes for appropriating funds and the employment of relatives of hospital directors while holding office of minister and learned that some of the hospitals are no longer public institutions as they became possessions of particular persons. The issue was developed in the talk show “Black box” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Ala Nemerenko revealed that the post of security chief at the National Hospital is held by the brother-in-law of the current director. “There are hospitals where sisters, brothers-in-law work and they all manage the hospital. I asked the director of a very big hospital, of national level, to make changes to the structure of the administration as I have suspicions about the vice directors working there, including about their age and how they were appointed,” she stated.

According to the former minister, it is very hard to change such a state of affairs as the ministry does not have instruments to exert influence and principally drafts health policies.

She also said that if the funds intended for the health system had been used correctly, Moldova would have now had modern hospitals and the doctors would have received higher salaries and many of the patients could have been saved. Pressure is currently exerted on persons from the system to make them leave. “I presume the post of director of the National Health Insurance Company was vacated following the use of pressure.”

Ala Nemerenko noted that while serving as minister, politicians suggested that she should name particular persons to certain posts.
