The MPs of the Alliance for European Integration started the first meeting of the Parliament's fall-winter session with encouragements and calls for better collaboration in plenary works. At the same time, the Communist legislators organized a protest outside the Palace of the Republic, demanding the Parliament to set the date for the referendum on Moldova’s accession in the Eurasian Union, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Communist leader Vladimir Voronin declared that AIE MPs must pass the test of democracy. “Today is an important day because the parliamentary majority will have to show their true attitude towards the people’s right to their own opinion, towards their right to choose a democratic and independent path”, said Vladimir Voronin. The PCRM group submitted to the Parliament the initiative to organize the referendum for Moldova to join the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union. “It is an anti-crisis initiative that will change the life standards for the better. The referendum is meant to hear the people’s voice. We don’t demand anything for ourselves. We only want that the people were allowed to have their say, according to the Constitution. Let the people speak. Let the people decide how to live. I offer you the best terms now. The terms will become harsher every time”, warned Voronin.
Head of the Liberal-Democratic Party group Valeriu Strelet highlighted the importance of the atmosphere in which the session begins. “We must objectively and sincerely analyze the feelings that characterize our state of mind because they will influence the whole activity of the Parliament. We are optimistic because it is the first time when we start the session without the pressure of early elections or a political crisis”, he observed. Valeriu Strelet admitted there were some worries because of ambition-fueled opponents. “They are annoyed that Moldova is advancing rapidly and that, in spite of the actions against the state, the Alliance still works”, said Valeriu Strelet.
Head of the Democratic Party group Dumitru Diacov wants the government to pay more attention to the people’s needs. “I hope we’ll start building our home and taking care of it”, declared Dumitru Diacov. He added that the Communists shouldn’t insist on the referendum. According to him, the people have already had their say when choosing a democratic and safe path.
Leader of the Liberal Party group Ion Hadarca listed the Parliament’s priorities in this session, which include adopting a new Broadcasting Code, ensuring investments in national roads and water supply systems, combating cartel deals and others.
The Parliament opened its fall-winter session on September 27.
