Mothers in difficult situations, deprived of family or partner support, can ask for a shelter and aid at the Maternal Center “In bratele mamei” (In Mother's Arms), inaugurated today, September 10, in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. For now, the Center will be able to accommodate five mother-child couples, and next year its capacity will be extended to ten. “Mothers can stay at the center for up to a year, and meanwhile we will try to solve their problems, find them a job or restore their relationships with their families. Any mother can ask for shelter at the Center, regardless of nationality, religion or political belief”, stated Mihaela Belei, the Center's coordinator. The Center was built and furnished by the the Church of Bessarabia's charity arm Diaconia, with the help of charity organizations including Caritas Vienna (Austria), Caritas Ambrosiana (Italy) and Aide et Presence (Monaco). “The Church of Bessarabia wishes to help every person in need, but our possibilities are not always up to the task. This Center is a great achievement and the money spent on it is nothing compared to what it can do for mothers in difficulty”, Metropolitan Bishop Petru, the Church's head, stated at the inauguration ceremony. Caritas Vienna representative Raimund Badelt stated for his part that this Center is the largest project funded by the organization in Eastern Europe. “We believe that every child deserves a normal life, together with his mother, and such projects are extremely important, especially for developing countries. The money donated for the Center was collected from kindhearted people whose names we don't know, but who were generous enough to offer mothers and their children a chance for a better life”. Diaconia started its “In bratele mamei” Program in 2008, organizing concerts and other fund-raising events to help mothers in difficult situations.
