The Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing Industry (MAIA) and its subordinated agencies will get reorganized, and their competences and powers will be reviewed for better operating, Prim-Neo has learnt from a communique issued by the Moldovan Presidency. On Monday, June 9, at a working meeting, President Vladimir Voronin said the moves were to insure not only the efficient mechanism of the planning, control and produce delivery process, but also the Ministry's ability draft policies and laws related to the agricultural sector, as is the example of the EU's similar ministries. According to the head of the state, the new structural-functional approach of the ministry is also determined by the rapid development of the rural and agricultural sectors on international plane. They plan to create so-called the Agricultural General Inspectorate to employ 140 staff, the Phytosanitary Agency with 300 employees, the Sanitary-Veterinary and Animal Origin Products Safety Agency with 2,263 employees. Following the planned reorganization, the number of the Ministry's employees will decrease with 588 people.
