The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry anticipates about 250,000 tonnes of barley will be harvested from the 125,000 hectares of barley fields this year. The forecast pea production from 50,000 hectares is 60,000 tonnes, while the wheat production from 300,000 hectares is 800,000 tonnes, the agriculture minister’s consultant Constantin Rotaru told Info-Prim Neo. “As regards the wheat, the reaping campaign only started. As the State Hydrometeorology Service forecast nice weather, we plan to close it by July 21. Only 10% of the wheat has been collected so farm” Constantin Rotaru said. The pea has been 90% harvested, while the rape and barley - 75%. Farmers complain that the quality of the wheat this year is poor. The agriculture minister’s consultant said it is too early to make assessments. After reaped, the wheat will be tested at laboratories in Chisinau, Floresti and Cupcini. It will be then clear if the gluten content makes it food wheat or fodder wheat.
