After a possible victory of Dorin Chirtoaca in the June 5 local elections, the ruling alliance may improve its public image, political analyst Anatol Taranu said in a program on Moldova 1 on Sunday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Dorin Chirtoaca has been in the shadow of the ruling alliance, but after a possible victory his duty will be to become one of the main players in the alliance. Such a quality can help solve a number of problems existing inside the government coalition. It depends on weather Dorin Chirtoaca wants or not to come out of the shadow,” said the analyst. Attending the same program, Dorin Chirtoaca said a direct involvement in the work of the Alliance for European Integration at central level would be logical only if things in Chisinau improve. “For the residents of Chisinau to be satisfied, the situation should improve significantly. Otherwise, the people may regard this coming out of the shadow with distrust,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. Asked by Info-Prim Neo several hours earlier to comment on the exit poll results, Anatol Taranu said they point to a political polarization in Chisinau. “The fact that the turnout in Chisinau exceeded 50% is good, while this polarization makes the people more active,” said Anatol Taranu. According to the analyst, the stake of the local general elections is high as some of the objectives that were not achieved by the political parties in the November 28, 2010 elections may be indirectly achieved now. He said that if the Communist Party obtains a good result, it may insist on early parliamentary elections. With 99% of the votes counted in Chisinau, the Communist candidate Igor Dodon leads with 52% of the vote. Dorin Chirtoaca polled 43% of the ballot. The results for the municipality of Chisinau will be announced during the day. According to the exit poll results, Dorin Chirtoaca earned 53.1% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – 40.9% of the vote.
