Until a new Minister of Energy is appointed, Prime Minister Dorin Recean will take over the energy portfolio. Following the declaration of a state of emergency in the energy sector, the Prime Minister promises appropriate measures to ensure the continuity of energy and gas supplies, IPN reports.

During a press conference, the Prime Minister stated that the upcoming cold season will be challenging and fraught with risks. This is why he plans to address Parliament next week to request the establishment of a state of emergency starting December 16.

When asked whether he would negotiate again with the Russian conglomerate given his temporary management of the energy portfolio, Dorin Recean stated that "Gazprom" has the obligation to deliver gas at the border with the Republic of Moldova.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that he held a meeting on Wednesday with institutions responsible for ensuring the country's supply of natural gas and electricity. Several tasks related to contingency plans for the coming period were outlined during this meeting.

The state-owned enterprise "Moldelectrica" has been tasked with ensuring greater interconnection capacity to import electricity if needed. It must prepare island interconnection scenarios on high-voltage lines with Romania and coordinate with Ukrainian counterparts on the logistics of maintaining and repairing the Isaccea-Vulcanesti high-voltage line on Ukrainian territory.

SA "Energocom" is required to secure contingency contracts to provide electricity in the event that the Cuciurgan Power Plant becomes inoperable. Similarly, the company must establish contingency contracts to ensure a steady supply of natural gas for the population.

"Vestmoldtransgaz" has been directed to increase gas volumes in the balancing account between the transmission systems of Moldova and Ukraine.

Finally, SA "Termoelectrica" must prepare plans to boost electricity production capacities in case the Cuciurgan Power Plant ceases to operate.
