“In order not to repeat the failure of the Alliance for Democracy and Reform, the new democratic coalition, the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), must take account of the positions of all the political players in the region – Russia, the United States, the EU,” the vice president of the European Action Movement (MAE) and a member of the first Parliament Ion Neagu said during a program on Vocea Basarabiei radio station,
Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Neagu, the AEI must take into account all the political players also because the Transnistrian conflict has not been solved yet. However, Moldova must not give way to the influence that Russia can exert, he considers.
“I hope that the four parties that formed the alliance will promote only Moldova’s interests and will not yield to Moscow’s imperial wishes. If we go along the path to Europe, we must have the US, the EU and Romania as strategic partners,” Ion Neagu said.
He expressed his conviction that the AEI is supported by the people, even by a part of Communists’ supporters, and also enjoys massive support abroad.
The MAE vice president said that before departing the Greceanyi Government must rectify “the crime committed against the EU citizens by introducing a visa regime for Romanian travelers.”
Speaking about the increased attention devoted to Moldova by the European chancelleries and the world press, Neagu said that it is a good sign for the political class, for the population and for all those that put their trust in the AEI. The politician is sure that the Europeans want that the Democratic parties’ success is strengthened and will support Moldova by directing large investments to the destroyed economy.
“A good sign was given by the International Monetary Fund. It promised that the talks over the provision of loans will be resumed as, similar to the World Bank, it is aware of the disastrous condition of the Moldovan economy,” Neagu said.
He expressed his skepticism about the loans promised by Russia and China. “Russia could give the loan in exchange for companies as it happened last year, while the US$1bn loan promised by China looks like ‘a smoke curtain’ in the electoral campaign.”
As to the further behavior of the AEI, Neagu said that the 53 MPs must have courage and wisdom to go on. He voiced hope that many judges, prosecutors and police officers will reconsider their conduct and, from now on, will serve the interests of the Moldova people, not of “a clan in agony”.
