[– Now that the parliamentary session is over, please enumerate the best results achieved by the legislative body in the period and explain how they were possible?]
- Moldova’s irreversible course for European integration has been confirmed. The formation of the Alliance for European Integration offered a real possibility for unprecedented openness on the part of the EU and the U.S. They provided €2.7 billion in financial assistance to help us avoid the crisis and Moldova’s collapse. We thus could cover the huge budget deficit inherited from the Communist government and avoid social and other types of problems. The pensions and salaries are paid on time. They were not raised, but the situation in Moldova is better than in Romania, Greece, Spain and France, where the pensions and pays have been cut. This is an additional burden on the population that leads to revolt.
At political level, the relations with our neighbors that are strategic partners have improved owing to the policies pursued by the government coalition. Progress is made with the negotiations on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldova. We have a civilized dialogue with the neighboring countries, with which we had a diplomatic and media war earlier. Many positive things were done after the democratic parties of Moldova joined their forces and formed the Alliance for European Integration. We are all equal in the Alliance and we all bear equal responsibility for the country’s future.
[– What were the failures of the Parliament in the spring-summer session of 2010?]
- One of the greatest failures of the AEI is the non-voting in of the head of state. No matter what the cause is and who is to blame, the President was not elected and we will have early elections. However, the AEI found a way of avoiding similar uncertain situations in the future. September 5 will be a crucial day for Moldova and we hope the referendum will be successful and we will overcome this political instability.
There are also other negative things like certain decisions that are not coordinated inside the Alliance and cause instability in some cases.
The fact that some of the components of the Alliance interfere in the affairs of other components can lead to a reduction in the number of supporters of the AEI. This is the greatest disappointment. I started to wonder: Isn’t there somebody who is preparing to work as part of a different type of coalition after the early legislative elections, with the Communists? There are dignitaries in the Alliance who have experience in this field. I would comment no more on this.
[– Does the Alliance for European Integration exist? What mechanisms for coordinating the Alliance do its components have now that the parliamentary session closed?]
- The AIE exists and should exist. We must realize that the disappearance of the AEI will lead to the modification of the Parliament’s structure and there can appear left majorities, with the Communists. This means the Communists will return to power in Moldova. Therefore, we must concentrate on the referendum and organize it in the best way possible. The result of the September 5 plebiscite will be in fact the result of the early parliamentary elections. We want the AEI to exist until the referendum and elections and, more important, after them.
[– Why do the components of the AEI attack each other more harshly lately? Did the election campaign start?]
- For some of the components of the AEI, the election campaign started long ago. This is because there is no sincerity between the members of the Alliance and its leaders. Some of them show they lack political wisdom as the dismemberment of the AEI or the reduction in the number of our voters will endanger Moldova’s future. Thus, the AEI should have a common candidate for the presidential elections. This will strengthen the Alliance. This is for the time being an opinion, not yet a proposal.
