The president of Teleradio-Moldova Company (TRM) Valentin Todercan is the accomplice of Vladimir Voronin, the members of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) said at the Parliamentʾs meeting on Wednesday. The MPs demanded that Todercan de-Communize the news bulletins, Info-Prim Neo reports. The MP of the AMN Leonid Bujor said that the refusal of the public broadcasterʾs administration to come to the Parliamentʾs sitting at the request of the AEI shows once again that the Communists do not know what democracy is. Leonid Bujor also said that Teleradio-Moldova during the last few days has misinformed the public about the parliamentary sittings. The MP expressed his indignation at the fact that TRM refuses to broadcast live the Parliamentʾs meetings. “The company must act in strict compliance with the law. The AEIʾs decision of August 28 adopted by the vote of 53 MPs is legal,” Bujor said. Corina Fusu, MP of the PL, reiterated that the problem of the national public broadcaster must be solved immediately. “The given issue is old and painful. Though there were passed many laws that regulate the broadcasting sector, while in power the PCRM knew how to subdue the public broadcaster,” Fusu said. The Liberal MP Ion Hadarca suggested creating a commission that would examine the work of Valentin Todercan and propose his dismissal if necessary. At the start of Wednesdayʾs meeting, the members of the Alliance asked Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianyi and the presidents of Teleradio-Moldova, the Supervisory Board and the Broadcasting Coordination Council to present reports in the Parliament. None of them came after a two-hour break. Speaker Mihai Ghimpu said that they were obliged to come, according to the Constitution. On September 1, the administration of the TRM issued a statement, saying that the Parliament interferes in its editorial policy and demanded that its subordination to the legislature be reviewed. The statement says that the Parliament obliged the TRM to immediately modify the broadcast schedule and to indicate the format, length and broadcast hour of the programs. “By such an act, the Parliament openly violates the editorial independence of the public broadcaster, interfering brutally in its program policy,” the statement reads. The TRM describes the decision as attempt to endanger the freedom of the press in Moldova.
