The leaders of the parties that formed the Alliance for European Integration 3 (AEI 3) stated different views on the subjects and results of the meeting of the Alliance’s Council held in the evening of October 24, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, who is the acting leader of the PLDM, told the journalists that they considered methods of solving the major problems faced by the country, how they all should act to improve the activity of the ruling alliance and how to unite the population around a national idea – that of European integration.
Valeriu Strelet said he told his alliance colleagues that the accusations formulated in the censure motion against the Government, submitted in Parliament by the factions of the PSRM and PCRM, are stupid and unfounded. “I told them to be confident that the Prime Minister is not a corrupt person. I told them I will present a progress report when the censure motion is debated and will afterward refute the accusations made against me. The parliamentary groups will then take a decision,” he stated.
As to the requests to dismiss Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin and the National Anticorruption Center director Viorel Chetraru, made earlier by the Liberal-Democratic MPs, the Premier said he recommended the government partners to constitute a working group that would work out a plan of action for fighting corruption and reforming the justice sector. “I hope we will be able to design this plan by next Thursday’s sitting of Parliament,” he said.
The Liberal Party’s head Mihai Ghimpu said they reached the conclusion that there is yet a lot to be done. The dismissal of the Government wasn’t discussed, but the Liberals will not support this censure motion. “We form part of the alliance and this is the Government of the alliance. We assumed responsibility,” he stated.
As to the PLDM’s demands to dismiss Gurin and Chetraru, Mihai Ghimpu said it was the PL that until recently sought dismissals and now the PLDM also does this. “But it is not right to dismiss these officials now that the investigation into the bank frauds started,” he stated, adding that the alliance was formed to govern and to change the situation in the country, but should not take care of Filat or Ghimpu. “Only we, the three parties that formed the coalition, can ensure the European course is maintained. It’s not possible other way.”
The chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu told the press that the meeting was held on the initiative of the PLDM. “The proposal to create a working group and to work out a plan of action, put forward by the Liberal-Democratic colleagues, is confuse. I didn’t understand what kind of plan of action is needed when there is a government program. After all the initiatives submitted by the colleagues from the PLDM – the one concerning the election of the head of state and that about two dismissals – and the support given to the demands of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, I had a normal question: “are you in the Alliance or in the Platform? ”. We also discussed whether the alliance has a majority of votes or does not have it to ensure the implementation of reforms. What will we do with only 50 votes?”, stated the Democrats’ leader.
Marian Lupu noted that he reached three conclusions: “1) A working group is not needed as the people expect results, not papers; 2) the formation of the parliamentary majority is the key problem and negotiations should be held with the unaffiliated MPs; 3) it is very important to leave aside blackmailing, with platforms and working groups, and not to impose conditions as the situation is critical and it must be overcome rapidly and efficiently. The situation remains very confuse. We didn’t receive very clear answers to our questions. We are yet to clarify many things,” he stated.
