The president of the Communist Party did not come to the discussions organized by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). The leaders of the coalition waited for Vladimir Voronin at the Palace of the Republic for about an hour, starting with 11.00, but all in vain, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This gesture shows irresponsibility not towards the four Democratic parties (PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN), but towards the voters and the situation experienced by the country during eight years of Communist government. It is also a ‘flick’ to the Western and Eastern international organizations that eye us attentively,” said Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of the AMN. “The Communists do not think how to overcome the serious situation faced by Moldova, but how to save their party. Their decision not to hold a dialogue with the AEI runs counter to the wish of the people, who voted for a change on July 29,” said the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu. “We initiated a civilized dialogue. I still hope that the representatives of the PCRM will realize how necessary the political maturity is when promoting the people’s interests,” said Marian Lupu, the president of the PDM, adding: “If this blockage persists, the situation will worsen and those that did not come to discussions will be to blame for the situation.” “I understand the Communists very well. This way, they send their messages. But we have an agenda that we follow and that must be fulfilled,” said the PLDM president Vlad Filat. The leaders of the AEI said that today they were to discuss possibilities of overcoming the crisis. “We did what the Democratic parties can do,” Urecheanu said. “The Alliance will forgive the PCRM and will accept the dialogue if the party invites the AEI to discussions, not parties separately.” Asked if the Communists contacted them separately to invite them to a possible dialogue, the leaders of the four parties said that they did not, stressing that the AEI will not change its position. The PCRM denies the existence of the Liberal-Democratic coalition and wants to form a center-left coalition. The AEI holds 53 seats of MP, while the PCRM - 48. The coalition needs eight more votes to elect the head of state. The first sitting of the new Parliament was scheduled for August 28.
