The recently invested Government has to cope with a number of difficult tasks in a very difficult period, but the alliance parties will not intervene in the executive’s work if only in sensitive matters. Such statements were made by the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) 3 Vlad Filat, Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said one of the major tasks is to resume the talks and to sign the agreement with the IMF. “We are in a rather difficult situation and need the agreement with the IMF, which will represent a health certificate for the Moldovan economy. If the IMF comes, the foreign investments will also come. We must yet renounce the current economic development model,” he stated.

Referring to the Transnistrian dispute, the Liberal-Democratic leader said the dialogue on the issue should be continued and he agrees with his alliance colleagues that the conflict must be settled by diplomatic ways, especially because the situation became favorable. As regards the election of the head of state, Filat said he does not share the opinion of his alliance colleagues and pleads for the direct election of the head of state, but will vote the bill to amend the Constitution so that the President is elected by a simple majority of votes in Parliament so as to keep the alliance.

The leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said that besides the mistakes made by the politicians who ruled the country, the difficult economic situation in Moldova is also due to such objective factors as the relationship between the West and Russia and the situation in Ukraine, but the inauguration of the Government represents a powerful message of stability. “We adopted a government program that is to be implemented by the executive. The alliance will not diminish or substitute the activity of the Government. We all voted for this program,” he stated.

He noted that he is for the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict as soon as possible. “The European Union will not accept another Cyprus. The situation is now appropriate for resolving the Transnistrian dispute because we enjoy Ukraine’s support,” he said.

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the leaders of the AEI will intervene in the Government’s work only in sensitive matters. “The alliances are formed between parties and we assumed responsibility. But this does not mean that the Premier must come to the alliance to discuss any detail. We will provide advice in such delicate problems as the rise in retirement age or in the tariffs of energy resources,” he stated.
