Significant foreign policy events will take place this year in Moldova. Adrian Băluțel, state secretary of the State Chancellery, says that preparations are already underway for the summit of the European Political Community, which will take place in Chisinau on June 1. Chisinau will also host the Euronest summit this year. According to the official, the interest of the European community for the Republic of Moldova is high, and the government must fulfil all the commitments that it took when our country was granted EU candidate status.

At least two large-scale foreign policy events will take place this year in the Republic of Moldova, namely the summit of the European Political Community and the Euronest summit. Both meetings will focus on Moldova’s European integration efforts, as the extent of the national legislation’s alignment with the EU acquis will be evaluated.

“This year, the Republic of Moldova will host the Euronest summit, which will see lawmakers from the European Parliament, Ukraine, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova come together. This will be a good venue to present our achievements in the relationship with the EU and to increase the understanding of our European partners about what we do. The biggest event of the year is on June 1, being the summit of the European Political Community, a more extensive format than the European Union, it will bring together 47 heads of state in the Republic of Moldova”, Adrian Băluțel stated during a show on Radio Moldova.

Civil society members say that the openness of European states towards Moldova has grown considerably in recent years, with the Baltic countries being among the strongest supporters of the European integration process. In this context, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu started his diplomatic year with visits to Latvia and Estonia.

“The Baltic states have always provided assistance to the Republic of Moldova and supported it politically and technically in the process of getting closer to the European Union. The experience that Latvia has in the accession process is useful for us, because we share a common past, we were part of the same community of states, and this makes us on the same wavelength in terms of mentality. In Latvia, Deputy Prime Minister Popescu visited the NATO Center for Strategic Communication. This is very important, as strategic communication is one of the basic topics today. It is important how we communicate, because we have to face a strong wave of disinformation and propaganda, and this is where colleagues from Latvia can offer us assistance”, said the associate expert of the Association for Foreign Policy, Victoria Roșa, during the same show.

Over the past decades, around 90 projects sponsored by Latvia have supported the development of Moldova, including reforming the judicial system, strengthening the financial system, improving border management, the health system, supporting independent media and many others.
