Prohibiting the building of military bases on the territory of the municipality of Chisinau and modernizing markets in the city to discourage ambulatory trade are among the promises made by the Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor of Chisinau Adrian Albu and the candidate of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” in the debates program “I want to be a mayor” on ProTV Chisinau. In the same program, the candidate of the Electoral Bloc “Ruslan Codreanu” said that he will cooperate with the Government in identifying the best solutions to problems experienced by the municipality of Chisinau, IPN reports.

Adrian Albu
stated that as the mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau, he will ban the creation of military bases on the territory of the municipality. The Party of Socialists’ priority is not to allow building training grounds and ammunition stores and the concentration of military vehicles and equipment in the municipality.

“In Băcioi commune, a lot of 26 hectares was allotted for building a military basis there in partnership with the U.S. and Romania. We are not against the Republic of Moldova becoming a strong military. But I have two questions – who will be drafted into the army when the exodus of young people is of over 120,000 a year, and why are these bases built in the municipality? They can build them somewhere further,” said Adrian Albu.

Ruslan Codreanu, of the Electoral Bloc “Ruslan Codreanu”, said that to ensure efficient cooperation between the Chisinau City Hall and the central authorities, the mayor general should be part of the Cabinet.

“We consider that the mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau should form part of the Cabinet. When we speak about investments in the Republic of Moldova, it first of all goes to the municipality of Chisinau, which generates 72% of the revenues. When we speak about the development of tourism, it goes primarily to the tourists who come through the Chisinau Airport. When we speak about the importation of cars older than 15 years, the mayor general should have a say so that Chisinau is not turned into the waste dump of Europe. The mayor should be a Cabinet member and should discuss the problems related to the municipality of Chisinau with the ministers,” stated Ruslan Codreanu.

Victor Chironda promised that as the mayor, he will modernize city markets and will solve the problem of unauthorized trade. Appropriate conditions will be created in markets to encourage ambulatory traders to sell their merchandise legally, by meeting all the sanitary norms.

“We aim to solve the problem of markets, primarily of the Central Market. Trading should take place inside the market, not around the market. The people do not want to sell in the market because there is corruption in the market. On the other hand, there should be the possibility of penalizing these people and the City Hall regrettably does not have instruments for the purpose. An efficient method of cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior should be identified as only the police can fine the persons who sell illegally. As regards the persons with very small incomes who sell belongings to survive, the City Hall can propose a social program to support these people,” opined Victor Chironda.

The debates are organized by ProTV Chisinau channel in partnership with Promo-LEX Association, the Association “Journalistic Investigations Center”, the independent online publication “NewsMaker”, “My Mayor’s Office” Association, IPN News Agency and the portal “Privesc.eu”.
