The adoption of the Constitution was the expression of the people’s aspirations to live in a sovereign and independent country. These value, which were periodically challenged, should be defended confidently not only by the Constitutional Court, but also by each citizen. The Court transmitted such a message on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, IPN reports.

The message says a Constitution must cope with historical challenges, ensuring the perpetuation of democracy and the rule of law. Even if the Constitution of 1994 was subject to revision, the fundamental principles and values of the constitutional block remained the same. As a guardian of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court ensures the preeminence of these principles, not of momentary and contrary political interests.

“The Constitution of 1994 is not large in volume, but it managed during 29 years to ensure the needs of a society aspiring to freedom and democracy. In its case law, the Curt underlined that the Construction is a “living instrument” that should be interpreted according to its spirit so as to ensure the functionality of state institutions and the strict observance of the supreme principles and values,” runs the message.

The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova was adopted on July 29, 1994 and came into force on August 27, 1994.
