There are queues at all the universities in Chisinau. Hundreds of young people besieged the higher education institutions on the very first admission day, July 18. Claudia Cemartan, secretary of the admission commission of the State University of Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo that the number of applicants is usually very large on the first admission day even if the contest conditions are the same for everyone and the day when the application is filed does not matter. “We do not yet know which of the faculties are in demand. They probably include economic sciences, law and foreign languages, as usual. But we hope that other faculties will also attract students as the country needs different kinds of specialists,” said Claudia Cemartan. The deadline for applications is July 31. The admission procedure remained the same as last year. The candidates will be selected on the basis of the average grade obtained in school. The State University of Moldova provides 990 budget-funded places and 1,114 places on a contract basis. Most of the young persons who applied to the State University of Moldova on the first admission day hope they will get a budget-funded place at the faculties of economic sciences and law. Some of them came to the university at 05 am even if the admission commission started work at 08 am. They said they want to be put on the lists of applicants as soon as possible. The admission results will be announced on the first days of August. If places at some of the faculties remain unfilled, there will be held the second admission round. According to the Ministry of Education, more than 22,000 persons will be enrolled in universities this year. The studies of over 6,000 of them will be financed from the budget.
