Admission to universities to start on July 2

The admission to the universities in Moldova for the academic year 2007-2008 will start on July 2-16, according to the ordinance issued by the Ministry of Education and Youth. The results will be announced on July 17-21. The Academy “Stefan cel Mare” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be an exception, as the applications for the participation in the admission contest shall be submitted until July 1 at the district or municipal police stations and military commissariats, and the examinations will be held within July 16-25. The results will be announced on July 27. The admission to the higher education institution is performed on a contest basis. For those who have baccalaureate diplomas, the share is 70%, for those who have certificates of secondary education – 20% of the total number of places; and for the graduates of colleges – 10%. At the same time, the places in universities are also distributed by residence. The candidates from the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, the holders of secondary education certificates receive 10% of the total number of places, and 90% are offered to the candidates from villages, raion centres and towns. 30% of the available places were distributed to the graduates of lyceums from Chisinau and Balti. At the same time, no difference on the rural/urban principle is made in the case of the graduates of colleges. The share for the candidates from villages for the state scholarship at Arts, Medicine, veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences and Military Studies is set by the specialised ministries depending on the necessities of specialists in the aforementioned fields. In the case of the contest for the fulltime education are allowed the persons who are under 35, and no age limits are set for the part-time education. According to the Regulation on the organisation of the admission to the higher education institutions in Moldova, the admission on contract basis with the subsequent payment of the tuition in the private and state higher education institutions is performed according to the same criteria as the admission with state financing.
