The Cabinet approved a bill by which the administrative and penal fines are increased, IPN reports.

Thus, the bill provides that the fine for driving under the influence of alcohol will rise to 500 conventional units, which is up to 25,000 lei.

“We set the goal of struggling against those who drive under the influence and endanger the people’s lives,” said Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

Also, in order to combat the illegal payment of salaries, also called ‘in envelope’, the fine for legal entities that will commit this offence will be raised to 75,000 lei.

“I think he state in such cases must be very firm. We encourage the development of business entities by improving the business climate, but also ask that the salaries should be paid legally and that all the social contributions should be paid,” stated the Premier.

The conventional unit based on which the fines are calculated, which in 2002 was set at 20 lei, was raised to up to 1% of the average official monthly salary forecast by the Government for the year when the offense was committed. Thus, in 2016 the conventional unit is 50.5 lei.

Also, the minimum levels of concentration of alcohol in the blood when driving will be 0.3 g/l to 0.5 g/l, while in the exhaled air – 0.15 mg/l to 0.3 mg/l. The level of advanced state of inebriation will be reduced to 0.5 g/l in the blood and to 0.3 mg/l in the exhaled air.

The bill is to be remitted to Parliament for examination and adoption.
