The vice director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries Sergey Demchenko was remanded in custody for 15 days based on a decision made by the Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court, which partially accepted the prosecutors’ request, on February 17.
The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru.
Sergey Demchenko was arrested on February 15. He is suspected of abuse of power in the interests of a criminal organization and faces three to eight years in jail and ban on holding particular posts of performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
