During the last meeting, the cabinet of ministers in office approved on Thursday, November 14, adjustments to the state budget for 2019. The current finance minister, Natalia Gavrilița, said that the law on public sector salaries was enacted in haste, without proper expense estimations and without information that would allow to cover the expenses. The budget for 2019 provided for 1.2 billion lei less than necessary for the implementation of the law.

"Moreover, the distribution process by settlements is not clear, which is why the Law on the Budget provides for a discretionary fund that the Government redistributes. We have made several decisions over the course of these five months. Now we will issue another government decision to cover local budgets with financing resources for the payment of salaries", said Natalia Gavrilița.

According to her, this government decision provides salaries for October and November. "It targets several districts and settlements. The decision provides for the issuance of 484.1 million lei from the allocations provided by the 2019 state budget for local public authorities of both levels for the partial coverage of the expenses of the implementation of the law number 270. This is accomplished via transfers with special destination and through current transfers with general destination", explained the minister.

According to Natalia Gavrilița, the next cabinet of ministers will have to monitor the situation at the local level and come up with additional decisions for the distribution of finances to local public authorities in order to cover expenses for December and, in case of arrears, for November.

On Thursday, November 14, the Parliament invested in office the Chicu government, which was supported by 62 MPs. The new cabinet took the oath on the same day.
