Former Polish dissident Adam Michnik, who is now the editor-in-chief of the well-known Polish daily “Gazeta Wyborcza”, called on the Moldovan journalists to be more combative in the fight against corruption and the oligarchic system. He made such a statement in the talk show “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Though he admitted that he does not know the situation in Moldova very well, Adam Michnik believes the mass media could do a lot in the fight against corruption. “We do not have pistols and bombs, but we are armed with honor and dignity, which are much more powerful weapons. The people also have great power. You should not be afraid of oligarchs as they will ultimately leave, as the regime of Putin will fall in Russia,” he stated.

The Polish journalist gave as example the case of the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlussconi. “Everyone was afraid of the phenomenon of “Berlussconissm”. The former Premier of Italy had everything: money, power, control over media outlets. But he ultimately was jailed,” he said.

Adam Michnik came to Chisinau on the occasion of the international documentary film festival “Chronograph”.
