The acts of violence against teachers will be classed as acts of hooliganism and will be punished with fines of up to 68,000 lei or jail terms of at most five years. The legislative proposal to amend the Education Code, the Penal Code and the Contravention Code was approved by the expert commission and will be submitted to Parliament for consideration, IPN reports.
The offending of teaching staff in public places will be punished with fines of up to 3,000 lei or community service.
The teachers will be obliged to immediately report any suspected or confirmed case of physical or verbal abuse against them or colleagues on the part of students, parents and other persons.
Among the main principles stipulated in the Education Code will be the principle of non-violence in the education process and the protection and security of teaching, scientific-teaching and scientific staff.
