The actors of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater of Chisinau will go on tour in Bucharest and Iasi during January 15-27. The tour is part of the project “Romanian Theater in Chisinau, Bucharest and Iasi” that was launched to celebrate the 100th anniversary of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater and in memory of the man of culture Ion Caramitru.

The program starts at “Ion Luca Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest on January 15, with a play to render homage to poet Mihai Eminescu and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Opera in Bucharest. The event will involve artists of the three aforementioned institutions of culture taking part in the project. On January 16, there will be presented the play “Hamlet in Spicy Sauce” by Aldo Nicolaj, under the direction of Alexandru Cozub. The same play will be put on at “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theater in Iasi on January 23, while on January 24, there will be presented Matei Visniec’s play “How to Explain the History of Communism to Mental Patients ”, under the direction of Cristian Hadji-Culea.

Contacted by IPN for details, the director of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater of Chisinau Petru Hadârcă said that last year the tour was thwarted by the pandemic. But the tradition for the actors to perform on the stage of “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theater in Iasi, where the Union of the Principalities is celebrated together with Romanian actors, has existed for seven years. On March 24, actors of the National Theater of Iasi are usually present at “Mihai Eminescu” Theater in Chisinau, where it is celebrated the Union of Bessarabia and Romania.

There is one more occasion for celebrations this year. The actors of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater will be in Bucharest on January 15, when it is celebrated the National Culture Day. On this occasion, they will present a play together with their counterparts from “Ion Luca-Caragiale” National Theater of Bucharest, accompanied by the orchestra of the National Operate in Bucharest. There will be shown a fragment of the documentary about the 100th anniversary of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater in Chisinau, said Petru Hadârcă, noting he is happy that the project became a tradition.
