The beloved Moldovan theater and film actor Valeriu Cazacu, People’s Artist, died in the morning of July 21, at the age of 72, IPN reports. “The master departed this life, leaving the stage of the Satiricus National Theater “Ion Luca Caragiale” sad and empty, without the matchless humor and memorable presence on the stage that delighted us for over half a century. “Theater is my life. Theater is love,” said the great actor, giving his characters authenticity and naturalness, regardless of the genre of the play in which he appeared: drama, comedy, satire or variety show,” says the obituary signed by senior state officials.
Among the parts that made him famous were Romeo, Brutus, Ginghis-Han, the Son from Arkadi Arkanov’s play “What is Man’s Life?”, Faranga from Liviu Rebreanu’s “Ciuleandra”, Archbishop de Charron from Mikhail Bulgakov’s “Moliere” and others.
In 1993, Valeriu Cazacu was awarded the honorific title “Master of Arts”, while in 2011 became the People’s Artist. In 1996, he won in Stockholm the award for the most expressive role that propagates the values of civilization for the Wise Man from “Beethoven’s Ode to Joy Played by Pistol” by M.M. Ionescu.
“With profound sadness, we offer our sincere condolences to the family, relatives, friends, our theatrical and cinematographic community and to all those who knew and praised the Man and Master Valeriu Cazacu. God rest his soul,” runs the obituary.
