The National Bank of Moldova organizes a series of financial education activities within the international campaign “Global Money Week”, which this year takes place on March 18-24. According to NBM, the event is intended for all those who want to develop their financial culture, especially children and young people, to better know the financial-banking concepts, but also how the personal budget can be managed correctly, IPN reports.

Thus, the National Bank, in partnership with the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” and the National Museum of History of Moldova, will stage workshops, exhibitions of coins dating from different times and public lessons of financial education throughout the country.

“Financial education means giving people the skills they need to increase their well-being and contribute to the development of the country’s economy. This education begins at an early age. Children and young people need to be prepared for the future. In this respect, we want, as a central bank, which is the national coordinator of the financial education process, to transmit to the young generation the information that will form a solid basis so that, subsequently, it can assess the economic situation and make correct financial decisions,” noted NBM governor Anca Dragu.

Thus, the activities within “Global Money Week” will include visits to the NBM’s exhibition hall, with the opportunity to hear a brief history of the national currency and to admire the collection of commemorative and jubilee gold and silver coins. Access will be possible from Monday to Friday (March 18-22).

Also, interactive workshops on financial topics will be mounted at the National Museum of History of Moldova during March 18-24. There, the visitors could also admire the collection of ancient coins.

Participation in the event will be possible through prior registration. Groups of up to 35 people over 9 years old will be set up. Students will be accompanied by an adult, who will be responsible for the safety of minors during the excursion or workshop. Requests can be sent until March 13 to the e-mail address edufin@bnm.md. Visits will be organized every hour on the hour, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Launched 12 years ago, Global Money Week is an international initiative that involves 176 countries. It raises awareness of the importance of financial education for cultivating well-grounded financial attitudes and skills necessary in making everyday financial decisions.
