The Ministry of the Interior is the most corrupt institution in Moldova, which trains mafia teams to control the smuggling of drugs and cigarettes and trafficking in human beings, said activist Fiodor Ghelici, who is a diplomat of the International Organization for Economic Development, ambassador named in Moldova, and who heads the public organization “Moldova Mea”.

In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said that several weeks ago, he was stopped in traffic by patrolling inspectors who complained to him about the pressure existing in the system. They said they are forced to monthly collect money from drivers. From a person caught driving under the influence, the inspectors must ask for €1,000 for not documenting the case. The activist went to the National Anticorruption Center to report these violations, but there he was told that they know the situation.

Fiodor Ghelici stated that he spoke to a representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office, who confirmed that the Ministry of the Interior is the most corrupt state institution. “Persons who monitor the trafficking in drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol are named to responsible posts at the Ministry. Their duty is to start criminal cases against the political opponents during the coming election campaign,” said Fiodor Ghelici, adding that he had a discussion with an employee of the Ministry of the Interior, who told him he was warned that the seat he holds costs money that he must gain.

According to the leader of “Moldova Mea”, former President Petru Lucinschi told him that he knows about this situation that was created in the 1990s by infiltrating persons with a dubious past in the law enforcement bodies with the aim of helping them escape criminal punishment, but in time the situation got out of control.

The activist also said that the high-level corruption can be rooted out only by arresting at least one Premier and several ministers so that the people see that reforms are indeed implemented.

Feodor Ghelici underlined that he bears civil and criminal responsibility for all the made statements and can substantiate them in court.
