Activist Fiodor Ghelici, ex-chairman of the public control commission of the Civil Society Council working under the President of the Republic of Moldova, said he will sue President Igor Dodon for slander.

In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said that the statements made by President Dodon about the reasons for the liquidation of the public control commission in a TV program are untrue. Igor Dodon argued that the commission’s chairman asked for money from embassies working in Chisinau using the President’s signature. According to Fiodor Ghelici, all the letters sent in the name of the commission he represented had the corresponding heading and his signature as the chairman.

The activist also said that the multiple letters sent by Moldovans to the public control commission were dropped by the President and no one deals with these now. “In most of the letters, the people ask to investigate the banking frauds. When I reported to the President on this, he told me to shift the blame onto Filat (ex-Premier Vlad Filat, e.n.)),” stated Fiodor Ghelici.

He noted that when he headed the public control commission, he kept President Dodon informed about all the cases of corruption reported to him, including those that involved representatives of the Party of Socialists, which Igor Dodon headed before he was elected President. Ghelici said he possesses documents that confirm this and also his whole correspondence with the President during his chairmanship of the commission and intends to present these proofs in court.
