The Border Police, in concert with the Customs Service, ordered a series of additional measures aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing the waiting time in customs posts and avoiding the formation of long lines in these. The actions will be taken before Easter, in the period between April 19 and May 15, when the number of people who cross the state border is on the rise, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Border Police, the flow of persons and units of transport through customs posts will be monitored nonstop. If the transfrontier traffic grows considerably, the number of border police officers and customs officers will be increased. Special portable devices for reading travel documents will be used in the period.
At the request of the local public administration, local checkpoints will be set up on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border so as to simplify the crossing of the border by Moldovans and Ukrainians who live in the border administrative districts on a permanent basis. The number of patrolling teams and of mobile teams involved in the monitoring of the state border and of national roads in the vicinity will be increased.
The travelers are urged to verify the validity and status of the travel documents. If minor children are taken on the trip, the parents must make sure that they have all the necessary documents.
During the paschal holidays last year, the state border was crossed by over 1 million people and about 245,000 vehicles. Otaci, Leuseni, the Chisinau International Airport, Sculeni and Giurgiulesti were the most popular border crossing points.
