Representatives of the Moldovan authorities agreed to offer political support and assistance in the communication with particular countries where additional procedures are needed for obtaining confidential information for making the recovery of the money stolen from the banking system possible. The readiness to provide assistance was stated in a meeting with representatives of Kroll company, which was held on the initiative of the Speaker of Parliament, Prime Minister and National Bank governor, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the goal of the meeting was to present the most recent findings of the investigation and the strategy proposed for recovering embezzled funds estimated at about US$600 million.
The representatives of the Government and Kroll considered the legal actions that can be taken in the name of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to recover the embezzled funds. The recovery strategy focuses on the initiation of legal procedures in key jurisdictions where stolen money was already identified and on the continuation of the tracing of the other stolen assets. It was decided that at the first stage of the strategy, civil and criminal lawsuits will be filed based on the evidence provided by the investigating team and by the investigation bodies of Moldova.
