Acting prosecutor general Dumitru Roibu requested Parliament to lift the immunity of the MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) Radu Mudreac, announced Speaker Igor Grosu, noting that the MP is suspected of money laundering, IPN reports.

Igor Grosu said that by order of the acting prosecutor general, legal action was taken against MP Radu Mudreac and two more persons on April 20. The given criminal case was connected to another case started on August 5, 2021 over large-scale money laundering. Dumitru Roibu asked to lift the immunity of the MP so that this could be detained, arrested, searched and investigated for money laundering.

According to the Speaker, the acting prosecutor general’s request was transmitted to the legal commission on appointments and immunities for examination.

Deputy Speaker Vlad Batrîncea, BCS MP, said that under the regulations, the Speaker informs the MPs about the request in Parliament at the next sitting of the legislative body after the application is submitted and transmits the request to the legal commission. He accused Dumitru Robu of aiming to destabilize the situation and of making a show.

“Congratulations, mister acting prosecutor general. You successfully solved the high-profile cases, got back the stolen billions, apprehended the bandits, restored public order and now, during the state of emergency, came after an opposition MP. I think this is a heroic deed, a proof of courage and professionalism,” said Vlad Batrîncea.

He asked for a 30-minute break.
