President Nicolae Timofti will name an acting Prime Minister on April 25. The decision was made public by Vlad Filat in a press briefing after he held consultations with the head of state, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat said that he already secured a parliamentary majority of 53 votes for the new Government to be voted in. Another five MPs were to announce their support for the executive today. Referring to the Constitutional Court’s decision that his designation as a candidate for premiership was unconstitutional, Vlad Filat said it was a political decision.

“This decision sets an indescribable precedent. The Court used such terms as ‘suspicion’ without taking into account the presumption of innocence. Irrespective of this situation, the PLDM will act in accordance with the principles of a state with the rule of law,” said Vlad Filat. According to him, the Court’s decision wasn’t accidental. It will become history and will have a negative impact on the democratic development of Moldova.

Vlad Filat told the journalists that the PLDM will announce its subsequent steps after the extended consultations initiated by the party this morning.

On April 22, the Constitutional Court declared the President’s decree to designate Vlad Filat as a candidate for Prime Minister as unconstitutional.
