Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, gave a speech at the high-level segment of the 46th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council that is held in a video conference format during February 22-24, IPN reports.
In his speech, the Moldovan official spoke about the impact of the pandemic on the human rights, especially on the vulnerable groups that were affected by the pandemic the most. Aureliu Ciocoi also called on the international community to condemn the human rights violations in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said Aureliu Ciocoi noted that any measure to alleviate the effects of the pandemic should be based on the respect for the human rights, underlining the importance of the right to health and of the necessity of strengthening international cooperation in ensuring everyone’s access to vaccines.
He drew the international community’s attention to the abuses committed by the Transnistrian bodies, saying the situation got worse during the pandemic.
The official also referred to the actions taken by the Government in the human rights sector as part of the efforts to do democratic reforms in the Republic of Moldova.
